Appeal of Kokorin and Mamaev’s sentence may be postponed because of tragedy related to witness
Ekaterina Bobkova has been in coma since falling off a balcony in a Czech hotel.
The defense of Alexander Kokorin and Pavel Mamaev planned to appeal against their sentence until May 18. However, the court may postpone the consideration of the appeal due to an incident with a witness in the case, Ekaterina Bobkova, lawyer Shota Gorgadze told ABN.
“If this is an important witness, then the court has the authority to postpone the meeting until the witness recovers. It is for the judge to decide,” he explained.
On the other hand, according to him, this can be avoided if the court finds that the testimony of Bobkova, which she previously gave, contains enough information. “The court has the authority to read out the earlier testimony of the witness. The testimony fully compensates for the absence of a witness in the courtroom,” Shota Gorgadze added.
As previously reported by The CrimeRussia, the court found Kokorin and Mamaev and two of their accomplices guilty of Hooliganism and Beating. Kokorin received one and a half years’ imprisonment, and Mamaev got 1 year and 5 months. In turn, Igor Bushmanov, Pavel Mamaev’s lawyer, told RIA Novosti that the trauma of the witness, Ekaterina Bobkova, will not affect the appeal decision.
