Anar Allakhveranov charged with homicide for beating world champion Drachev to death

Anar Allahveranov is on the federal wanted list as a suspect. He is now charged under Art. 105 of the Criminal Code (Murder committed maliciously).

Anar Allahveranov, the suspect in the murder of Andrey Drachev, the World and Europe powerlifting champion has been charged with homicide.

Earlier, the Investigation Directorate of the Russian Investigative Committee for the Khabarovsk region had instituted proceedings under part 4 of Art. 111 of the Russian Criminal Code (Intentional Infliction of a Grave Injury, which has involved the death of the victim by negligence), punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment. Now the investigators changed the charges making it under item (i), part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code (Murder committed maliciously). The new article provides for a 20-year imprisonment or a life sentence for the murder suspect. The charges were amended "in connection with new circumstances revealed during the investigation".

The local office of the ICR announced that the suspect had been put on the federal wanted list.

As the CrimeRussia wrote previously, Andrey Drachev, 32, was killed on the morning of August 20 in a one-on-one fight with Anar Allahveranov, 25, near a cafe downtown Khabarovsk. A video footage that recorded the conflict shows the powerlifter getting kicked and falling, after which Allahveranov hits him on the head with his fist several times.

The ambulance arrived and hospitalized Drachev, but doctors could not save the man: he died from a brain injury. As for Allahveranov, he was quick to flee after the fight.

The family of the murder suspect claims it was Drachev who started the fight. They say the powerlifter used obscene language speaking to Allahveranov.

Meanwhile, Oleg Nilov, the deputy chair of A Just Russia faction, appealed to Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika with a request to take the investigation into Andrey Drachev’s death under personal control.
