Altay Region: step-mother who tortured two boys comes off with suspended sentence
The woman pleaded partially guilty, justifying her actions with the necessary educational measures.
A 37-year-old resident of the Altay village in the Burlinsky District, who raises five children, as well as two children of her husband from the previous marriage, received a suspended sentence of three and a half years for bullying the children. She was found guilty of torturing minors (paragraph “a, g” of part 2 of Article 117 CCRF). The woman pleaded partially her guilty, justifying her actions with the necessary educational measures.
As the investigation established, from 2016 to 2018, the stepmother treated the stepsons badly – did not give food, let them sit at the common table, kicked off the house for several hours, forced to do their homework standing or sleep on the floor.
Moreover, the stepmother used physical violence against her stepsons – for minor mischief and disobedience, she hit the children with a shovel, stick, metal keys, punched and kicked them. The father did not notice or did not want to notice the woman’s negative attitude. As a result, the children were constantly hungry, asked for food from other people, ate the leftovers in the school canteen, lagged behind in development and were depressed.
The police removed the two children from the family. Their father is now limited in parental rights and at present, the children live with their grandmother, receive the necessary care and nutrition, and have significantly gained height and weight, the ICR said in a statement.
