African police show tons of cocaine seized from Russian sailors

Police officers have published pictures of 260 bales seized, in which, according to local authorities, there are 9.5 tons of drugs.

The Russian ship ESER has been detained on suspicion of smuggling a large consignment of narcotics in the African republic of Cabo Verde. The day before, police officers published pictures of 260 bales seized, in which, according to local authorities, there were 9.5 tons of drugs.

The detention took place on February 1. It was reported that the Russians came to the port of Cabo Verde by accident. The Panamanian flagged ship sailed from Panama to Morocco. However, one of the crew members died and the ship was forced to moor in the port of Cabo Verde.

The ship crew has been arrested; 11 Russian sailors are currently in custody. The Russian embassy in Cabo Verde has already contacted the arrested. Embassy officials say local authorities treat Russian seamen without violations.
