Aeroflot employees on a strike, 50 flights may get canceled every day
A pilot participating in the strike said that mass sick leaves are their way to make the management engage in dialogue with them.
Aeroflot flight attendants and pilots have been on a strike, taking sick leaves en masse, which resulted in 50 flights under threat of cancellation every day.
The Sick Leave Strike was launched by the Classic Flight Attendant group on VKontakte. “Since September 13, all those who have taken sick leaves are participating in the strike. The strike will last until the end of the month and, possibly, all throughout October,” the first post says.
In an interview with Life, a pilot participating in the strike said that mass sick leaves are a way to force the management to engage in dialogue with them. “We’re going to make them, otherwise Aeroflot will have to be cancelling about 50 flights a day! Our goal is a higher salary and respect by our superiors,” the pilot summed up. He added that employees are not going on an open strike but use sick leaves instead, because they don’t want to get prosecuted or fired.
Aeroflot reps told URA.RU that an official comment was being prepared on the matter. “All the information [about the strike] was taken from unverified sources, from social media. It needs verification and confirmation,” said company spokesman Maxim Fetisov. Aeroflot says the reports about the alleged strikes may be someone's attempt to discredit the carrier.
