“What’s your last name?” Acting mayor of Lipetsk finds herself in crosshairs following anti-Semitic statement
Evgenia Uvarkina has not commented upon her statement, yet.
Acting mayor of Lipetsk Evgenia Uvarkina has found herself in the crosshairs following an anti-Semitic statement towards a local at a public meeting. The video was posted on Twitter of Aleksey Navalny’s team and has already gone viral on social networks.
The video shows public hearings into construction of a public nursery at school #45. A few citizens are arguing against the construction.
One of the participants of the meetings wondered if it was possible to stop the construction. The Acting mayor in her turn asked him what his last name was.
“Belikov,” he said. “Belikov? I thought it would be some sort of a Jewish last name,” Uvarkina said.
When asked why she thought that, Uvarkina failed to give a meaningful answer.
The local media clarify that those who are arguing against the construction of the nursery do not want to lose the school’s stadium that is expected to be broken down in that case.
Natives of Lipetsk state this is the only site for walking and sports in their district.
