Aleksandr Gerasimenko will be either dismissed, or appointed head of the Ural Transport Prosecutor’s Office.

Controversial Yamal Prosecutor is about to resign, but it is not clear when this will happen. Some sources say the Yamal prosecutor may be appointed head of the Ural Transport Prosecutor’s Office, or just be dismissed in the worst case.

Rumor has it Prosecutor of the Magadan region Anatoly Vasilyev will replace him.

Gerasimenko has been a prosecutor for 11 years. Over this time, materials compromising both him and the whole department have regularly appeared in the media.

For example, in 2017, a footage showing Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District Dmitry Kobylkin and Gerasimenko on the territory of the Taimyrsky reserve appeared. In one of the pictures, the prosecutor holds a large Arctic char he caught.

Earlier, in 2015, Prosecutor General Yury Chaika reprimanded Gerasimenko for “improper performance of official duties expressed in the creation of additional administrative pressure on entrepreneurs.” This happened after a scandalous story surfaced involving businessman Oleg Sitnikov, whose enterprises had been subjected to numerous unreasonable checks.

Another scandal was associated with the reconstruction of the building of the District Prosecutor's Office in Salekhard, where money was allocated twice; 95 million rubles ($1.5 million) from the budget in 2014, and another 511 million rubles ($8.1 million) in 2016.
