Roskosmos thinks of giving weapon back to spacemen

Spacemen stopped using weapon in 2007.

Roskosmos is likely to return fire weapon to equipment of spacemen, the State Corporation told RIA Novosti. Spacemen stopped using weapon in 2007.

“Formation of a set of a personal emergency kit for a new-generation, reusable piloted spacecraft Orel (formerly known as Federation) will be carried out at a late stage of its creation,” Roskosmos said. The first flight by cosmonauts in Orel is scheduled for 2025.

When asked whether a possibility to return fire weapon to equipment of spacemen is being considered, the State Corporation: “We are considering our options.”

Starting from Yury Gagarin’s flight, Makarov guns were given to cosmonauts during the flights. In winter, in 1965, cosmonauts Aleksey Leonov and Pavel Belyaev landed in taiga and scared away bears with the guns for a few days. After that, TP-82 triple-barrelled pistol was made. Its improvement took more than 15 years. In 2007, shelf lives of the special ammunition were over. The manufacturing line was also closed then.
