Road accidents resulting in victims’ death can be equated to premeditated murder
The given proposal was voiced by the speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.
Drunk drivers who cause accidents with the death of people should be responsible along with the persons involved in cases of premeditated murder, the speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin said. The deputies, along with the relevant committees, are working on the issue, Interfax reports.
Volodin noted that almost every day the media writes about fatal accidents caused by drunk drivers. The State Duma speaker believes that getting behind the wheel drunk is the same as having intent.
At the end of 2018, 4,300 people were killed in drunk accidents and 20,600 were injured. In total, the traffic police counted 15,000 of such accidents.
The cadets have been found guilty of an Attempt at Murder by a Group of Persons by Previous Concert and for Mercenary Reasons (part 3 of Art. 30, part 2 of Art. 105 of the Russian Criminal Code). They do not plead guilty.
