The President thanked former executives for their work in regions, which, in his words, “changed for the better” in spite of difficulties.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the rotation of governors “matter of course”. He said this during a meeting with former heads of five regions, who recently retired. The transcript of the conversation was published on Friday, February 17, on the Kremlin website.

It is noted that the meeting took place the day before, on Thursday.

"I believe that you will be able to apply your forces in other work. I would strongly encourage that your experience and your knowledge of the situation in a particular region and in the whole country have been used effectively in the future," Putin said.

The President thanked former executives for their work in regions, which, in his words, “changed for the better” in spite of difficulties.

"I know that you have made every effort to ensure that in a difficult economic situation, especially, in the last two years, it is worthy to go through these difficulties and create the conditions for your successor in the work for the development of regions. Strictly speaking, this is the main reason of the gathering," the President said.

On February 15, Head of the Republic of Karelia Alexander Khudilainen sent to Vladimir Putin an application for early resignation. The President accepted the resignation. Earlier this month Governor of the Ryazan Region Oleg Kovalev, Head of Novgorod Region Sergey Mitin, Head of the Republic of Buryatia Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn and Head of the Perm region Viktor Basargin resigned.

Spokesman for the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the process of rotation of governors, said heads of regions, taking a decision on early retirement, adjusted to the existing electoral calendar.
