Orenburg Region Governor Yury Berg takes a leave after vice-prime minister’s detention
Minister of Agriculture of the region and Vice-Prime Minister Mikhail Maslov is suspected of 100-million-ruble ($1.58 million) embezzlement.
On June 15, Orenburg Region Governor Yury Berg took a leave for two weeks, Orenday reports. This decision of the region head was preceded by the detention and dismissal (by ordinance of the governor) of Minister of Agriculture and Vice-Prime Minister of the regional government, Mikhail Maslov.
Previously, the Leninsky District Court of Orenburg arrested Mikhail Maslov until August 13. A criminal case of swindling (part 4 of Art. 159 of the Russian Criminal Code) was initiated against him. The minister is suspected of embezzling more than 100 million rubles.
According to the investigation, in 2015-2016, Mikhail Maslov embezzled budget funds together with Head of Vishnevsky agro-industrial complex, Viktor Zheleznov. It concerns the subsidies from the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Processing Industry for the construction of new agricultural enterprises or modernization of existing ones.
The investigators believe that the conspirators significantly overstated the cost of work and withdrew part of the budget funds received by Vishnevsky through fly-by-night companies.
