Ministry of Internal Affairs and National Guard to spend almost $ 10 million on encryption

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Russian National Guard will spend 637 million rubles ($ 9,9 million) on the purchase of cryptographic information protection means (Cryptographic Information Protection), which encrypt and decrypt files transmitted over internal networks. MBKh Media found the corresponding tenders on the public procurement portal.

The MIA is planning to buy 40 devices of one type at 3 million ($ 46,600) apiece, 160 of the second type at 1.9 million rubles ($ 29,500) per a set and two network control centers at 1.9 million rubles for each. The documents do not specify what exactly these sets are. However, it is said that they must have the FSB certificate.
The National Guard plans to acquire more than five types of various systems worth from 63,000 rubles ($ 1,000) to 1.9 million rubles. In two of the three purchases, the names of the cryptographic information protection system are indicated – the Continent APKKS version 3.7 and 3.9. The company Kod Bezopasnosti that produces these systems specializes in the production of software for law enforcement agencies.
At the end of September, the Ministry of Defense announced a tender of 250 million rubles ($ 3,9 million) for the purchase of systems for “preventing the facts of unauthorized placement of official documents” on the Internet.
