Kremlin takes into account Gref’s idea to cut number of police officers three times
Reducing staff will increase salaries of the law enforcement employees.
The Kremlin took into account the proposal of the head of Sberbank German Gref to reduce the number of police officers by three to four times in order to raise the remaining salaries by the same amount, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov told journalists.
“Now, it not possible to voice any positions on this issue, but, of course, it deserves attention,” Peskov said.
The spokesman for Vladimir Putin emphasized that Gref has extensive experience working in the government of the Russian Federation and expert organizations, and is also involved in many processes in the country's economy and innovation, “therefore, of course, his point of view is important.”
At the Moscow Financial Forum, Gref said that the police “are not necessary in such numbers” and that the number of civil servants can be reduced. In addition, the head of Sberbank criticized the government for preparing for past crises, not future ones, and predicted a “commodity shock” and “huge challenges” after the fall in oil prices.
