Karachay-Cherkessia finds replacement for Arashukov in Federation Council
The new parliamentarian had previously been a senator from the republic.
Krym Kazanokov became a new senator in the Federation Council from Karachay-Cherkessia, the head of the republic Rashid Temrezov reported. Kazanokov is a deputy of the Cherkessk City Council and predecessor of Rauf Arashukov, who was previously arrested. The former senator is accused of stealing natural gas worth 30 billion rubles ($ 460 million), involvement in two murders and pressure on a witness to one of them.
“I am sure that Krym Oliyevich will conscientiously work on the further development of Russian parliamentarism and solution of current socio-economic problems of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic,” Temrezov wrote on his Instagram page.
Kazanok represented KChR in the Federation Council in 2016 and later, along with Arashukov, claimed a seat in parliament. The third candidate then was the deputy chairman of the Cherkessk City Duma, Inal Gashokov.
