Kadyrov declares war on witches and healers and calls for praying instead
A huge campaign has been launched in the region against alternative medicine advocates.
The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, called for a vigorous fight against alternative medicine after detaining three women of Gudermes for practicing magic, Kavkazsky Uzel reports.
“I urge you to eradicate sorcery in Chechnya,” Kadyrov said at the meeting with the heads of municipalities. The region head warned that the "competent structures" would deal with the issue.
The campaign against alternative medicine practitioners began back in 2013. Many healers have left Chechnya amidst large-scale persecution with several people killed, the newspaper notes. In addition, Ahmed Abbasov, the Gudermes district, was fired for turning to a witch.
“Apparently, a new campaign has been launched against those people, once in two weeks they run news about the arrests of witches and fortune-tellers on TV,” said Fatima, a Chechen woman, commenting on the situation.
Meanwhile, the same head of Chechnya had previously told his people to seek treatment in prayers and the Koran. “Even if my finger is hurt, I say a prayer right away,” stated Kadyrov. According to the official, a religious text can cure even a deadly disease.
