Shortly before Mrs Sobchak announced her political ambitions, Russian President's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told about possibility of the TV host’s participation in the elections on air of the Dozhd TV channel. “Ksenia totally fits the provision of our Constitution, and she is a citizen of the Russian Federation, who according to the Constitution can run for president of the country, certainly, after implementation of all necessary procedures and formalities which are described in our legislation,” Mr Peskov noted.
Ksenia Sobchak sent a letter in which she explains her decision to the Vedomosti newspaper. “I have decided that my participation in the presidential elections can really be a step on the way to transformations that are so necessary for our country,” Mrs Sobchak said.
The main theses of the election program for a candidate for president were published in the press before the elections of 2012. Vladimir Putin who has won then has published the article Democracy and Quality of the State in the Kommersant newspaper.
Earlier today the Dozhd TV channel has announced a special issue of the Sobchak Alive program during which, as it was expected, Ksenia Sobchak would declare the promotion. The speech of the TV host was preceded by a meeting with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The broadcasting corporation BBC noted that a part of the conversation was held in private.
Saburova believes that the Russian authorities violated articles 2 and 5 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, guaranteeing the right to life, as well as the right to freedom and personal inviolability.
