Entrepreneurs tell about hushed meeting with Putin
The meeting participants discussed foreign policy and protection of business rights.
Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the economic development of the country and the business climate in it with members of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP). After the official event a hushed meeting with oligarchs, who are the members of the RSPP bureau board, was held. According to the participants, the Russian foreign policy plans and the problem of criminal prosecution of entrepreneurs were discussed without specific examples being considered, RBC reports.
“[We] did not mention specific cases, but in general this conversation took place, and the president promised additional steps to take so that the impulses that he indicated, in particular, in his annual message, are broadcasted throughout the system,” the head of VTB Andrey Kostin said, answering a question about the discussion of the arrest of Michael Calvey, the founder of Baring Vostok.
As the head of the NLMK Board of Directors, Vladimir Lisin, said, the geopolitical questions were addressed. The entrepreneurs were interested in the Kremlin’s plans for cooperation with Venezuela, Japan and Israel, but they did not achieve any specifics.
“I don’t think that the president had made any choice regarding this situation, that’s why he didn’t say anything about that,” Lisin said about whom the Kremlin is planning to support – Nicolas Maduro or Juan Guaydo.
Michael Calvey was arrested in mid-February on charges of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles ($ 38 million) from the Vostochny Bank. Head of the Russian Audit Chamber Alexey Kudrin, head of Sberbank German Gref, head of Alfa Bank Peter Aven, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev, and more than other 30 people expressed support regarding the defendant.
