Deputy Head of Rosgvardiya aspires to position of Dagestani Head
Sergey Melikov is the first candidate in the list of all possible options, reports the media.
Deputy Head of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) Sergey Melikov may become the new Head of Dagestan. This is reported by RBC with reference to four sources.
Previously, Melikov served as presidential envoy in the North Caucasus Federal District.
According to one of the RBC’s interlocutors, the Deputy Head of Rosgvardiya is a security official and knows the region well, and, most importantly, is respected there. Another source close to the leadership of Dagestan described Melikov as a figure "equidistant from the clans in the Republic".
The candidacies of the Deputy Head of the Kremlin Administration, ex-president of Dagestan Magomedsalam Magomedov, and Head of the Academy of the State Fire Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Shamsutdin Dagirov are also considered, but they have fewer chances, believe the interlocutors of the portal.
It is to be recalled that on Wednesday, September 27, Ramadan Abdulatipov announced his resignation as head of Dagestan. It also became transpired that Viktor Tolokonsky, the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Nikolay Merkushin, the Governor of the Samara region and Valery Shantsev from the Nizhny Novgorod region are also resigning.
After scaring Dagestan with inspections, arrests, and searches, the interdepartmental commission of the Prosecutor General’s Office and ICR has identified key priorities for the regional watchdog authority. After the crackdown on the old clan-based system, the management reforms became more constructive – however, another wave of criminal cases, terminations, and arrests is expected in the republic. The CrimeRussia was figuring out what other Dagestani officials are currently at risk.
