Chief analyst of Roskosmos resigns after searches in state treason case
Dmitry Payson will leave his post from the beginning of August.
Director of the Roscosmos research and analysis center Dmitry Payson filed an application for dismissal after a scandal with a leak of secret data from the Central Research Institute of Machine Building (TsNIIMash). The press service of Roskosmos confirmed that the chief analyst will leave his post in early August.
Payson filed the application after searches in his office in the research and analysis center in Moscow, as well as in the office of TsNIIMash, located in the city of Korolyov, Moscow region. It is known that the checks with the participation of FSB officers are held in the framework of the criminal case on state treason. The police suspect that secret data concerning hypersonic projects of the defense industry were leaked to Western special services.
Dmitry Payson is known as the former director for the development of the space technologies and telecommunications cluster of the Skolkovo Foundation, and also as an active participant in the forums at the Skolkovo Technopark, where issues of the creation and commercialization of new technologies were discussed.
RIA Novosti’s source reported that employees holding executive positions in TSNIIMash could be interrogated within the criminal case investigation. However, the press service of the state corporation said that they did not know anything about interrogations of the former or current leadership. According to the media, Payson closely communicated with the employees of the research institute who are involved in the criminal case.
Initially, the defendants in the case had been charged with embezzlement through swindling in the amount of 225 million rubles ($3.3 million). In the final version of the indictment, the article was changed to 1.5-billion-ruble ($22.45 million) embezzlement.
