Bananas with methadone were brought to prisoner in pre-trial detention center in Vyborg
The original attempt to smuggle drugs into the pre-trial detention center was stopped by the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Leningrad region.
Somebody brought to the prisoner a bunch of bananas as the delivery. During the search of sendings officers suspected that bananas are impregnated with foreign substances.
The examination revealed that the substance is a strong drug methadone (fenadon, dolofin), banned in the Russian Federation. As the website of the Federal Penitentiary Service in St. Petersburg reported, there were not less than 0.5 grams of narcotic substance in fruits.
It turned out that the delivery to the prisoner in the detention center № 3 on the Shpalernaya street was prepared by his acquaintance. In the nearest future the criminal case against her will be initiated under the Part 4 of Article 228.1 of the Russian Criminal Code which provides penalties for the production, shipment and sale of drugs.
The synthetic opioid group drug is on the list of prohibited items in Russia. According to clinical tests, methadone causes considerably greater physical dependence (drug addiction) than heroin.
According to the Russian MIA’s spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, the detention of Russian woman Maria Butina in the US was specifically timed to coincide with the summit of Putin and Trump in order to minimize the effect of the presidents’ meeting.
