Police come with searches to United Aircraft Corporation president
The events were held in the framework of the investigation over possible fraud under contracts for the manufacture and installation of aircraft interiors for the President and the first persons of the state airplanes.
Employees of the FSB and the ICR searched the apartment and the office of vice-president of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) on state aviation of particular purpose Sergey Gerasimov, Kommersant reports citing sources in law enforcement agencies. The events were held in the framework of the investigation over possible fraud under contracts for the manufacture and installation of Rossiya special flight interiors for the President and the first persons of the state airplanes.
The alleged fraud was associated with the development, manufacture, and installation of aircraft interiors and equipment. According to the investigators, large sums were stolen, in particular, at the conclusion of contracts for the maintenance of air-conditioning systems for Tu-204, Tu-214 and Il-96 liners used by the presidential aviation squadron. Also, theft could have occurred when purchasing five additional power plants for Mi-8 helicopters.
According to Kommersant, the fraud was discovered as part of the investigation of the criminal case against the former head of the Rossiya organization, Yaroslav Odintsev, and ten of his accomplices. They were charged with Abuse of Official Powers (part 1 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and Swindling on an especially large scale (part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In 2017, Odintsev and his associates were convicted.
The defense of the convicts told the edition that no separate cases were initiated during the investigation of their case. The lawyer noted that a new case over a particularly large-scale fraud was instituted after prosecutor's checks in the UAC.
Since 2015, Sergey Gerasimov has been in charge of special aviation issues in the UAC, such as delivery, maintenance, production, maintenance, and implementation of special flights. Before being appointed to this position, he served as the adviser to the president of the company on handling with government agencies.
The air squadron number one in Russia ended up in the center of yet another scandal. It turned out that its special purpose aircraft are used, in addition to the national leaders, by outsiders. Uninvited passengers travel, stay in best hotels, and dine in deluxe restaurants at the budget expense. In fact, the discovery of stowaways on board is not the first scandal involving Russia Special Air Group that has been in distress for almost three years already. Why cannot the supreme FSB commanders using the official airplanes along with the Russian President sort out this mess?
Earlier, the management of the railway and the place of residence of its high-ranking employees were searched within the bribe case. Investigative actions against head of the railway Alexey Mironov were held in Moscow, where he was on a business trip.
