Moscow police officer detained for extorting $6 thousand from woman for not opening case

A Moscow police officer was caught on extortion from a local resident, he tried to take money from a woman, promising not to initiate criminal proceedings against her. This was reported by Moskva news agency with reference to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the city.

The crime was revealed by employees of the internal security unit. It was established that an operative from the Ministry of Internal Affairs for Krasnoselsky district extorted money from the woman. The materials collected upon verification against the law enforcement officer were transferred to the investigation.

The Interior Ministry added that the senior Lieutenant would be dismissed on adverse grounds, and his leaders would be brought to "strict disciplinary responsibility."

According to REN TV, the detention was carried out on August 1. The operative is 25 years old, his surname is Ozerov. Channel's sources inform that he used violence against the 39-year-old Muscovite, handcuffed her and demanded that she give 400 thousand rubles ($6 thousand).

The victim appealed to law enforcement agencies, and on August 13 the police officer was detained.
