Main prosecution witness in case of ex-Governor Nikita Belykh arrested
Director General of Novovyatsky Wood-Processing Plant JSC Ruslan Tsukanov is suspected of large swindling.
One of the main prosecution witnesses in the case of ex-Head of the Kirov region Nikita Belykh, Director General of a wood-processing plant Ruslan Tsukanov, has been taken in custody. He is suspected of Swindling on a Large Scale. This is reported by Kommersant referring to its own sources. According to journalists, there are two episodes in the case.
In addition, Court-Appointed Receiver Sergey Martynov and Kirov businessman Ilya Ogorodnikov were arrested as part of the case on January 24. The Investigative Committee of Russia has yet to comment on the investigation.
During the trial of Belykh, Ruslan Tsukanov testified that the former governor had been in contact with businessman Yury Sudgeymer. According to the case file, after that, Belykh received a bribe of €250 thousand from the entrepreneur.
To recall, in February last year, the court found Belykh guilty of taking bribes worth €600 thousand in the period from 2012 to 2016. The ex-governor was sentenced to eight years’ rigorous imprisonment and a 100-million-ruble ($1.5 million) fine. In May, the Moscow City Court reduced the fine to 48 million rubles ($727,427).
