FSB detains Irkutsk Minister Sergey Shaverda at Sheremetyevo
The official became the defendant in the criminal case.
The FSB of Russia officers detained the Minister of Forestry of the Irkutsk Region, Sergey Shaverda, in Sheremetyevo, the ICR in the region reports.
Shaverda is suspected of Exceeding Official Powers causing grave consequences (part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The accusations will be leveled soon.
According to the investigation, the official is involved in illegal coordination and conducting of a clear sanitary felling in the Tukolon state nature reserve. The Head of the Service for the Protection of Fauna of the Irkutsk region, the Director of the Kazachinsko-Lensky Leskhoz and the forest pathologist of the Department of Forest Protection and Forest Pathology Monitoring of the Center for Protection of Forest of the Irkutsk Region are defendants in the same case. Defendants are charged with abuse of power, illegal logging, and violation of the regime.
The investigation found that officials organized illegal logging on 120 hectares. The damage from their actions is estimated at 748 million rubles.
Shaverda was appointed Minister of Forestry of the region in 2016. Before that, he was the director of several regional forestries, headed the Center for the Protection of Forest of the Irkutsk region.
