FSB detains former director of Ministry of Industry and Trade department in case of for $ 158 million
The damage was caused to the Khabarovsk Region, where the suspect will soon be taken from Moscow.
Vladimir Potapkin, the former director of the department of chemical-technological, timber industry and bioengineering technologies of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, was detained by officers of the Federal Security Service in Moscow in the framework of a criminal case with a damage of 10 billion rubles ($ 158 million), RBC reports. The case is investigated by FSB Directorate for the Khabarovsk Region, therefore, in the near future, Potapkin will be taken there by plane.
According to the investigators, Potapkin helped the commercial organization Asia les get subsidies of 450 million rubles ($ 7,11 million) and a plot of land for rent on preferential terms, which further caused damage to the Khabarovsk Region in the amount of about 10 billion rubles. On Saturday, June 22, a court in Khabarovsk will consider the investigation’s petition to take Potapkin into custody.
Back in February 2019, the detainee worked at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, but now Potapkin’s post in the Ministry is occupied by Alexander Orlov. The Ministry of Industry and Trade explained that Potapkin quit on his own volition.
In March 2019, the Khabarovsk security forces conducted searches in the case of forest theft, after which they detained the former First Deputy Prime Minister of the regional government Vasily Shikhalev and former director of the Asia les company Alexander Pudovkin. Then it was said that the organization illegally received subsidies totaling 1 billion rubles ($ 15,8 million) and illegally cut down forests worth 9 billion rubles ($ 142,2 million). Now the company faces bankruptcy.
