Former member of Saratov region Duma put on wanted list on suspicion of 40 million rubles swindling

The former member of Saratov region Duma Aleksey Sergeev has been put on an international wanted list on charges of swindling on an especially large scale (item 4 of article 159 of Russia’s Criminal Code), reports TASS with reference to the media office of the Office of Investigations of the Investigative Committee of Russia and its sources within law enforcement.
The investigation theory is that the 55-year-old Duma member was a virtual head of a construction company. At his direction, several apartments worth over 40 million rubles ($603 thousand) were handed over to a company affiliated with him on account of debt repayment. As a result, the construction of the block was not accomplished due to lack of funds.
The Duma member and his spouse’s property worth over 30 million rubles ($452 thousand) was seized. Sergeev who is abroad at the present time was arrested in absentia. The local media report with the reference to the Duma member’s lawyer that Sergeev denies accusations.
Denis Konstantinov has been warned that criminal case into high treason might be initiated against him. He states he was beaten and demanded to confess of his cooperation with foreign intelligence services.
Two 21-year-old residents of Perm are suspected of the murder of Dmitry Nekrasov. It is reported that after the homicide, personal belongings were stolen from Nekrasov’s apartment. A manhunt for the second suspect is underway.
