Former business partner of Elena Baturina detained for fraud by almost $8.8m
The case concerns the sale of Alfa-Plast to Igor Vardanyan for 483.3 million rubles ($8.7m) in 2010.
Law enforcement agencies detained businessman Igor Vardanyan. He is suspected of fraud for 483.3 million rubles, according to REN TV. The former business partner of the ex-Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov’s wife was released after the interrogation under a written undertaking not to leave.
The reason for the arrest of the businessman was a series of arbitration proceedings. In November 2010, Elena Baturina sold her company Alfa-Plast, which manufactures plastic products, to Vardanyan's Sigma Capital LLC for 483.3 million rubles. Vardanyan acted as a guarantor under the agreement. However, the buyer did not pay for the asset, after which Baturina initiated legal proceedings against her former partner.
In March 2016, the Arbitrazh Court of Moscow found Igor Vardanyan bankrupt on the application of Elena Baturina and opened the procedure for selling his property for six months.
Viktor Zakharchenko, who is accused of embezzlement of 4 million rubles (~70.000 USD) from the funds of the bank Moskovskoye Ipotechnoye Agentstvo (Moscow Mortgage Agency), was placed under house arrest.
Officer of the FSB in Moscow and the region Pyotr Koryugin participated in the extortion of 2 million rubles ($34.800) from an Azerbaijani citizen, and he warned a drug dealer about a forthcoming search for 300.000 rubles ($5200).
