Ex-head of Ryazan detained at Moscow airport
Charges have been already brought against Sergey Karabasov; he is in a pre-trial detention center.
Last night, former Head of the Ryazan administration, Sergey Karabasov, was detained at Vnukovo airport, Moscow. This is reported by a Komsomolskaya Pravda source.
It is not reported where the former official was going, but it is known that he is accused of swindling in the performance of a state order for the installation of a playground in Lesopark. According to the publication’s source, the former official was delivered to one of ICR departments in Moscow for giving explanations on the case of swindling.
His lawyer Sergey Kochetkov previously said that investigators intended to question Karabasov. According to law enforcers, he instructed Head of the Energy and Utilities Department of Ryazan, Igor Kovalev, to sign the acceptance certificate for the playground and pay for the order, but the work was not actually performed. Later, residents complained about the lack of the promised playground to President Vladimir Putin.
As reported by Mash, Karabasov has faced a charge under part 4 of Art. 159 of the Russian Criminal Code (Swindling on an Especially Large Scale).
To recall, on June 5, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow placed Igor Kovalev under house arrest as part of the same case; the contractor represented by Uyutny Dvor 62 LLC, Mikhail Puzanov, has been placed in custody.
