In February 2018, together with other high-ranking officials of Dagestan, former Education Minister Shahabas Shahov was detained. He was accused of embezzling 88 million rubles allocated for the construction of a school in Kaspiisk.
The detention is related to the investigation into the abduction and murder of Tatyana Sidorova, a deputy of the Ramenskoye District Legislature, and three members of her family, which occurred back in 2012.
