DEPO Computers CEO suspected of fraud with Defense Ministry contracts placed under house arrest
The electronics supplier is suspected of overstating the cost of equipment and non-compliance with certain points of the contract.
Alexey Irisov, the CEO of one of the leading computer manufacturers in Russia, has been released from the detention center and placed under house arrest. He is suspected of major fraud with electronics supply to the Ministry of Defense. The criminal case was opened by the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in August 2018 based on FSB’s files in relation to the co-founder and CEO of Depo Electronics LLC (trademark DEPO Computers). Alexey Irisov was detained and arrested in October. “He is now cooperating with the investigation, providing all information and documentation that is required, and therefore the prosecution requested the court to change the verdict to house arrest,” his lawyer Dmitry Grigoriadi explained to Kommersant.
According to the lawyer, the case initiated under Art. 159 of the Criminal Code (Swindling) concerns a 2016 Defense Ministry contract. The contact was not with DEPO Electronics, but with Antey LLC (whose founder is Sergei Eskin, who also co-founded DEPO Electronics). DEPO acted only as a supplier. The prosecution believes that during the contract execution, the cost was inflated, and certain points of the contract were violated. “Personally, Alexey Irisov had nothing to do with the government contract,” Dmitry Grigoriadi emphasized. Irisov’s lawyer refused to disclose details of the contract or the circumstances of the criminal case.
DEPO Computers is a Russian developer, manufacturer and supplier of electronics. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the company is the fifth largest supplier of desktop personal computers in Russia.
Presumably, it concerns the US response to Ukraine’s help in the investigation against Joseph Biden, Trump’s main rival in the 2020 presidential election, who allegedly was in collusion with Kiev during the previous campaign.
