Prosecutor Oleg Lavrov said that he was perplexed by the judge’s decision.

Judge of Moscow’s Meshchansky District Court Irina Akkuratova decided to return the case of the Seventh Studio to the Prosecutor’s Office because of errors in the indictment, Mediazona correspondent reported from the courtroom.

Attorneys for director Kirill Serebrennikov, ex-employee of the Ministry of Culture Sofya Apfelbaum, CEO of the Seventh Studio Yuri Itin, general producer Alexey Malobrodsky supported the proposal. Itin’s defender Yuri Lysenko emphasized that the investigation mistakenly concluded that cashing out money is theft.

Prosecutor Oleg Lavrov said that he was perplexed by the judge’s decision.

Earlier, the case of the former accountant of the Seventh Studio, Nina Maslyaeva, which was severed from other charges, was also returned to the Prosecutor's Office.

Serebrennikov, Itin, Malobrodsky, Apfelbaum and Maslyaeva are accused of swindling on an especially large scale (part 4 of Article 159 CCRF). According to the prosecution, they stole 133 million rubles ($ 2 million), which the Ministry of Culture allocated for the Platform project. Nobody except Maslyaeva pleads guilty.
