The Presnensky District Court of Moscow arrested former director of Gogol Center Alexey Malobrodsky for two months. According to TASS, he is suspected of embezzling budget funds allocated to the company The Seventh Studio.

Malobrodsky headed Gogol-Center from 2013 to 2015 and was removed from his post "for the admitted financial violations in the activities of the cultural institution of Moscow." On the eve he was arrested on suspicion of fraud in a particularly large scale while working as general producer of The Seventh Studio. Alexey Malobrodsky himself refuses to admit guilt in the case of fraud.

Recall that earlier under Swindling on an especially large scale (part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code) former head of The Seventh Studio Yuri Itin and former chief accountant Nina Maslyaeva were charged. According to the investigators, Maslyaeva and Itin entered into a criminal conspiracy and stole a portion of the allocated money by falsifying documents for the provision of services.

Maslyaeva admitted her guilt in cashing 100 million rubles ($1.7m) for The Seventh Studio through one-day firms that belonged to the familiar of Maslyaeva Valery Sinelnikov.

As part of the investigation into this case, at the end of May security officials conducted searches in the apartment of director Kirill Serebrennikov, as well as at the Gogol Center Theater, which he supervises. Serebrennikov is a witness on trial.

Autonomous non-profit organization for the development and promotion of contemporary art The Seventh Studio was established in July 2011 to implement the project of Kirill Serebrennikov Platforma. The costs of the project were covered by subsidies from the federal budget.
