Citizen of Krasnodar steals money from Irkutsk taxi drivers, passing himself off as inspector of State Traffic Safety Inspectorate
The swindler called the drivers and asked to transfer him money. Amounts from 1 up to 40 thousand rubles ($15 and 640, respectively) were transferred to him.
30-year-old man who had passed himself off as an inspector of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate has been detained in Krasnodar. The man made taxi drivers from the Irkutsk region transfer him money, reports the media office of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the region.
The investigation theory is that the suspect - for a few months - had been calling Irkutsk taxi services and introduced himself as an employee of the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. The man contacted the drivers and asked them - under various pretexts - to transfer him money for coffee and other goods, as well as recharging of his mobile phone account.
The drivers - while being certain of decency of the officer of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate - transferred him amounts from 1 up to 40 thousand rubles ($15 and 640, respectively). When they arrived at the unit of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, they found out that no one had ordered taxi and this employee did not work with the police.
A few mobile phones, bank cards and 20 SIM cards were seized from the man during the searches. He is accused of at least 8 instances of swindling (item 1, 2 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He was found out to have had prior records for robbery. At the present time, the suspect is being checked into involvement in crimes committed against citizens of other regions. He was conveyed to Irkutsk to carry out investigative activities.
