In Russia, the executive of the building company is charged in absentia.
Upon the request of Russian government, Valeriy Markovkin, executive of Novgorod building company Express, LLC, was apprehended by International Police in Senftenberg. He is charged with theft of over 60 million rubles ($880 thousand). According to the media-office of Investigative Committee of Russia, the extradition issue remains open.
The investigators believe that over a period of several years, Markovkin accepted financial resources from the civilians. Money was meant to be invested in cooperative housing projects along Shimskaya Street in Novgorod. However, he had different plans for these 60 million rubles. The construction project was not completed.
In Russia, Markovkin was charged in absentia with swindling committed on an especially large scale. The international warrant for his arrest was issued.
