Astrakhan regional government Chairperson and Finance Minister arrested
43 criminal cases have been initiated in the region against officials and businesspeople in connection with the relocation of people from dilapidated housing.
The morning of July 26 saw Rasul Sultanov, the former Chairman of the regional government, and Vitaly Shvedov, the Minister of Finance of the region, being arrested in Astrakhan, Bloknot-Astrakhan reports. The reasons for the arrests are not known yet.
Earlier it was reported that 43 criminal cases were instituted in the Astrakhan region against officials and businesspeople after checking the field of capital repairs and relocation of people from substandard housing. 22 defendants were detained, including the acting Minister of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities of the region, Oleg Guzhvinsky, and the ex-head of department, Sergey Kuchumov.
According to the investigation, since 2015, the acting and two former Ministers of Construction and Housing and Public Utilities have illegally allocated 47 million rubles ($744.5 thousand) to the Fund of Capital Repairs of Apartment Buildings of the Astrakhan region. The money was transferred under the guise of subsidies for the services of a company whose name is not disclosed.
Earlier, Deputy Prosecutor General for the Southern Federal District, Vladimir Kikot, held a meeting with the authorities of the Astrakhan region, announcing numerous violations during the relocation of people from dilapidated housing. The officials in Kirovsky and Trusovsky districts of Astrakhan, as well as in Kamyzyaksky and Narimanovsky districts of the region, accepted apartment buildings, “knowing that the work have not been completed,” the security official said, noting that those guilty would not avoid punishment.
