Altai ex-deputy to be tried for illegal real estate activity
In Altai, the investigation against the former deputy of the regional parliament from the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) Aleksey Kushnarev has been completed.
The local ICR has charged the ex-member of parliament with illegal business activities with the extraction of super profits (part 2 of Art. 171 of the Russian Criminal Code).
It was previously reported that from January 2013 to February 2014 the defendant had sold more than 90 plots of land and houses in the Lesnaya village, Industrial district of Barnaul, without registering entrepreneurial activities.
According to the investigation, Kushnarev acted by proxy on behalf of a frontman, his own brother. Year ago, investigators of the IC Investigations Directorate for the Altai region estimated the illegal income from Kushnarev’s activity at 61 million rubles (1.06 million dollars). In July 2016, the court placed the deputy under house arrest. However, the investigation revealed new episodes in the case relating to the period from 2014 to 2016. The total amount of illegal income of the former deputy amounted to more than 123 million rubles (2.14 million dollars).
36-year-old Aleksey Kushnarev was elected to the regional parliament on the regional party list of the LDPR in 2011, and worked in the V and VI convocations of the Altai Regional Legislative Assembly.
The prosecutors want the former Russian Federation Council member to go to prison for 14 years instead of 9 and pay a 500-million-ruble ($8.8 million) fine instead of 70 million rubles ($1.2 million).
