The head of the Accounts Chamber, Alexey Kudrin, believes that the situation with the arrest of Michael Calvey, the founder of the Baring Vostok investment company, is “extraordinary for the economy.”

"I want to draw attention to the fact that the presidential order is not being fulfilled - not to arrest under economic articles," he wrote on Twitter. Kudrin noted that he heard that he bailed for Calvey. "Not yet. Other respected people have already offered a guarantee,” the head of the Accounts Chamber added.

Earlier, Sberbank CEO German Gref, Director General of RDIF Kirill Dmitriev, and Oleg Tinkov, the founder of Tinkoff Bank, expressed their support for Calvey.

On Monday, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin was closely monitoring the development of the criminal case against Michael Calvey and hoped that this situation would not affect the investment activities.

According to him, President Vladimir Putin had previously repeatedly met with American Michael Calvey. The Kremlin knows the founder of Baring Vostok as a large consistent investor who “has defended theses on investment attractiveness” of the Russian market.

At the same time, the press secretary of the Russian leader stressed that the criminal case against Calvey is not on the agenda of Putin. “This situation has not and cannot have anything to do with the agenda of the head of state, this is quite natural, this is a matter of the investigating authorities,” said Peskov and added that Calvey could not be considered guilty on any charges until the court decision is rendered.

The founder of the investment company Baring Vostok, Michael Calvey, is suspected of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles from Vostochny Bank using a fraudulent scheme involving the First Collection Bureau. By decision of the Basmanny Court Calvey is arrested for two months.
