The Urals suspects Drug-Free City fund member of trafficking
According to some reports, drugs were purchased from police officers.
The Sverdlovsk region arrested a member of Drug-Free City Foundation (Gorod Bez Narkotikov - GBN), suspected of involvement in drug trafficking. Andrey Kabanov, the head of the organization, announced this on his page in Facebook.
According to him, law enforcement officers detained two people. Now they are placed under house arrest.
"During the operational search activities in the city of Verkhnyaya Pyshma a citizen, who had more than 100 grams of hash with him and was trying to sell it, was detained", – Kabanov explained.
The detainee named his accomplice, who turned out to be an active volunteer of the GBN.
"The guilty will get what they deserve. We will closely monitor the course of events", – concluded the head of Drug-Free City Foundation.
Deputy Head of the press service of the MIA of the Sverdlovsk region Nina Pelevina confirmed information about the detention to RIA Novosti. According to her, on April 5 "two citizens were detained" in Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
"About 140 grams of hashish have been seized from them, and a criminal case was opened under part 4 of Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code (Illicit making, sale or dispatch of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances or analogues thereof). It is being investigated where they took this substance for sale from", – Pelevina said.
According to unofficial data, the detainees said during the interrogation that they had bought drugs from police officers.
Deputy of Kabanov, Vice-President of the GBN Dmitry Pavlov specified that the detained volunteer was about 30 years old. Znak.com writes that he had worked with the fund for about seven months.
"Apparently, something breaks in a weak person. They go to controlled buys – they see how drug traffickers live and how much money it brings. They do not understand the only thing – the life of such people is 1.5 months at most. Then they face arrest, court, colony", – Pavlov noted.
Andrey Kabanov, whom the employees of Life contacted, talked tougher on the detained volunteer. The head of the GBN called the defendant of the criminal case a scoundrel.
"It is necessary to study everything out. But for us this volunteer is definitely a scoundrel and a rascal", – Kabanov said.
Charity Fund Drug-Free City has been engaged in the fight against drug trafficking in Ekaterinburg since 1999. Its co-founder was acting mayor of the city Evgeny Royzman.
The Fund is known for its extremely tough approach to the rehabilitation of drug addicts. In 2015 vice-president of the GBN Evgeny Malenkin was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for organizing the illegal imprisonment of seven women. He spent more than two and a half years in a pre-trial detention center and colony, Mediazona reports.
