Ex-employee of the Russian embassy in Argentina unknowingly transported cocaine to Russia since 2012
According to Ali Abyanov, from the middle of 2012, he sent suitcases packed as diplomatic mail by military transport aircraft several times at the request of the alleged organizer of smuggling, Andrey Kovalchuk. Kovalchuk paid a thousand dollars for a suitcase.
The high-profile ‘cocaine case’ was initially presented in the media as an example of efficient collaboration between secret services of two states in their struggle against the international drug trafficking. A few days later, many new details have popped-up with regards to the story involving 389 kg of pure Colombian cocaine and effectively turned it into a diplomatic scandal. The CrimeRussia was figuring out what could link the Russian Ambassador to Argentina, FSB, and Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, with 12 bags full of cocaine.
According to Head of Golden Mile Konstantin Loskutnikov, Alexander Kovalchuk was introduced to him as the Head of special services, who oversees embassies and consulates in the territories of Europe, Asia and Latin America.
