No thieves will be crowned under Putin, next mafia election planned on 2024
Oleg Shishkanov (Shishkan) is believed to be ‘in office’ only temporarily.
The election of the No. 1 thief in law of Russia will take place no earlier than 2024. According to Znak.com citing a source in the underworld, the authorities, who have recently taken a tough stance against the mafia, will not let them elect earlier.
As the source notes, while Putin is in office, there will be no crowning, since no one wants to risk it given the recently adopted amendments to the “anti-thief” law (Art. 201.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, “Having a high position in the criminal hierarchy”), which aggravates the punishment.
According to the source, the election of the main thief will not be held either in Russia or in other countries, where thieves generally have their summits. The fact is that even Turkey has very little tolerance left for the thieves now. For example, Nadir Salifov (Guli) was forced to leave Istanbul not so long ago; now, the crime leader lives in the United Arab Emirates. Thus, the thieves in law can only hope for a change of power in the country.
Note that although it was decided to extend the anarchy period in the thieves' world until 2024, the moratorium on coronation might actually continue for the next two years, until Zakhary Kalashov (Shakro Molodoy) is released from prison. The term of the mafia boss sentenced in the spring of 2018 to 9 years and 10 months of imprisonment ends in 2026.
According to Znak.com’s source, Yuri Pichugin (Pichuga) is considered the acting chief thief although no full-fledged coronation was held, one of the reasons being that he is currently under investigation for creating a criminal community in the 90s. 21 people are also among the defendants in the case; they are charged with banditry, attempted murder, kidnapping, illegal arms trafficking, extortion, fraud and other crimes.
Meanwhile, according to Rosbalt, another crime boss, Oleg Shishkanov (Shishkan), became the leader of the Russian underworld last summer, while Vasily Khristoforov (Vasya Voskres) and Merab Gogia (Melia) may keep their fund-raising duties for the pulled cash fund. Both Vasya Voskres and Melia are also considered to be very close to Pichuga. Some sources say that Shishkan is only a temporary №1 thief.
After the arrest of Zakhary Kalashov (Shakro Molodoy) in July 2016, security officials were instructed to prevent the next mafia election until the next presidential elections and the World Cup is over.
On April 1, 2019, President Vladimir Putin signed the law adopted earlier by the State Duma on his proposal, under which thieves in law had to be punished. The creation or management of a criminal community is punishable by imprisonment for up to 20 years, the same penalty awaits anyone participating in a mafia summit. A person occupying a “higher position in the criminal hierarchy” will be locked up for 15 years.
