In Spain, “Kakha Rustavsky” is charged with a 20 years and 11 months sentence
The remaining 12 defendants who were part of a criminal association of a "thief in law" were sentenced to 1,5-7 years of imprisonment.
A high-profile case of the Georgian "thief in law" Kakhaber Shushanashvili, known in his circles as Kakha Rustavsky, came to its logical conclusion. The source told the CrimeRussia yesterday the Spanish National Judicial Board sentenced Kakha Rustavsky to 20 years and 11 months in prison and ordered to pay a fine of 327,000 Euro. The remaining 12 defendants who were part of a criminal association of a "thief in law" were sentenced to 1,5-7 years of imprisonment.
Kakhaber Shushanashvili is known not only as a crowned "thief in law", but also as the leader of the Georgian-Russian mafia working abroad: he organized a system of money laundering. In addition, the court and the investigation has proven that the Kakha participated in a conspiracy to commit murder of the "kingpin" Vladimir Janashia, nicknamed Lado. Lado was shot in March 2010 in Marseille, but several attempts have been made prior to that day. Also Kakha Rustavsky was charged with illegal possession of weapons, fake bank cards and repeated attempts of fraud. The court ruled out to confiscate criminals’ "intercepted" cash flows. All property that belongs to the company created by Kakha in Spain will be subject to confiscation.
According to the indictment, in 2008, one of the “cells” of the gang formed in the former USSR consisted mainly of the Georgian citizens, settled in the area of Catalonia and the Levant. Kakhaber Shushanashvili was its leader. He was responsible for the "common fund", which was filled up by the other members of the group by the funds received in the course of theft abroad. In order to launder the money criminals have established cleaning companies, car washes and a mail delivery service.
Remarkable thing is that Kakhaber Shushanashvili is the brother of an influential mafia boss Lasha Shushanashvili who in the end of 2015 was released from a Greek prison due to the expiration of sentence. According to some reports, in December 2015, Shushanashvili Sr. has already been seen in Moscow at the "reception" of Shakro-Molodoy (Young) in the "Golden Palace" hotel complex.
