Armenian MIA states German investigators have no data on Ambassador’s ties with mobsters
The republic’s foreign affairs agency commented on information about the involvement of the Armenian Ambassador in smuggling activities.
The German investigating authorities do not have evidence of the involvement of the Armenian Ambassador in the smuggling scheme, said Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anna Nagdalyan.
According to her, there is no evidence that Ashot Smbatyan was complicit in the work of the international smuggling network.
“We initially contacted the authorized bodies of Germany to ascertain the credibility of the allegations. Based on this, I now confirm that the investigation has no information concerning our Ambassador to Germany,” Nagdalyan said.
She stressed that according to the decision of one of the courts, all reports in the German media that allegedly accuse Smbatyan of criminal activity are to be removed.
As The CrimeRussia wrote earlier referring to the German media, the case targeting the crime group of immigrants from the Transcaucasian region featured the names of Armenian Ambassador to the country Ashot Smbatyan and well-known boxers Artur Abrakham (Abrakhamyan) and Karo Murat. However, convincing evidence of the involvement of these persons in the ‘Armenian mafia’ has not yet been found by the law enforcement agencies.
Through his lawyer, the Ambassador called all this information a “rumor factory”. He also offered his support in the fight against ethnic Armenian mafia groups.
