“Thieves in law have not showed up in the Republic for a long time” Tatarstan Interior Ministry refutes Roma Sych’s visit
The police believe that the pogrom in Altyn mall was orchestrated by ordinary hooligans rather than by local gangs.
The Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs claimed the media was wrong saying thief in law Roman Sychev aka Roma Sych had arrived in Kazan. The press stated that the thief had allegedly come to the Republic’s capital to resolve a conflict between two rival gangs. One of the gangs reportedly looted the shopping center after its owners had refused to pay for protection racket that the mall had already had.
“Thieves in law have not showed up in the Republic for a long time, that’s all I can say with absolute certainty. I really don’t think that such a small shopping complex [Altyn] would be of interest to a thief in law," said Marina Frolova, the First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Republic of Tatarstan.
According to Frolova, the shopping center was pogrommed by ordinary hooligans, rather than gangsters. However, the MIA representative refused to give any details of the investigation. All we know is that the police detained five people that were subsequently arrested by the court. The suspects are charged with hooliganism and deliberate destruction of property.
As the CrimeRussia wrote previously, the raid on the mall occurred late on March 16. 11 unknown persons wearing medical masks burst into the shopping center and began to smash the windows without attempting to attack the people. After that, the raiders got into a Mercedes, an Infiniti and a Mitsubishi and disappeared.
