It is still unknown whether Bilalov would be extradited to Russia or whether he was detained for a different violation. Bilalov’s lawyer did not take the call of the Miami Herald reporter.
Russia started criminal proceedings against Bilalov on charges of involvement in the “unnecessary spending for the managers’ trips abroad with the use of luxury goods” from the company's budget.
In addition to being the head of North Caucasus Resorts, Bilalov was vice president of the Russian Olympic Committee. After being criticized by the president, he was fired from both posts and left Russia.
