Ulyukaev does not recognize guilt, calls the case provocation
The case of the Minister of Economic Development is held by the investigator, who had previously worked on the Navalny brothers’ case.
The Head of the Ministry of Economic Development Alexey Ulyukaev, arrested over $ 2 million bribe, did not recognize his guilt. It was reported by TASS citing its source. According to Reuters, the case is held by investigator Roman Nesterov, who had previously worked on the Navalny brothers’ Yves Rocher case.
The lawyer Alexander Vershinin will protect Ulyukaev during investigation. He is known for his work with police major Denis Yevsyukov, who had shot visitors of a supermarket in Moscow in 2009. Now, Vershinin is a lawyer of the Head of the ICR Main Directorate for Interagency Cooperation and Private Security Mikhail Maksimenko accused of corruption. Vershinin said that Ulyukaev’s representatives contacted him in the Basmanny Court while making a decision on measure of restraint for Ulyukaev.
Another lawyer of the Head of Ministry of Economic Development Timofey Gridnev in his interview to Business FM said that during the questioning, Ulyukaev called the incident, which happened in the Rosneft office yesterday, a provocation against the public official. Answering the question what exactly happened there he did not say anything citing the commitment on nondisclosure of preliminary investigation.
The Minister was arrested on the night of November 15 on suspicion of taking $ 2 million bribe. According to investigators, the money was a reward for the Ministry’s improvement of the Rosneft’s deal on acquisition of state-owned shares of Bashneft.
It is worth noting, the investigation asked the court to place Ulyukaev under house arrest. The high-ranking official cannot be held in a pre-trial detention center, as he has access to state secrets of the highest level, reported RIA Novosti citing its source in law enforcement bodies.
