Ulyukaev celebrated first birthday in prison with pie and wife
The former official turned 63.
Former Economic Development Minister Alexey Ulyukaev, convicted for bribing, celebrated his first birthday behind bars. The formerly high-ranking official turned 63 years old. Representatives of the Federal Penitentiary Service said that today the ex-Minister has a meeting with his wife. According to Moskovsky Komsomolets, Ulyukaev was congratulated by members of the economic club he created in prison, where he teaches this subject to everyone wishing. There are a lot of those who wish, the regular listeners of Ulyukaev feature 40 people. All of them presented gifts to him, some, having no opportunity to buy a valuable thing, made handicrafts for Ulyukayev. Also, the fans of the ex-official's teaching talent baked him a big cake.
According to the testimony of prison guards, Ulyukaev enjoys respect of the administration and convicts in prison. The convicted Minister does not cause troubles for the administration. It is also reported that Ulyukaev works as a librarian in the colony.
To recap, Ulyukaev was convicted in late 2017. He was found guilty of bribery worth $ 2 million and sentenced to 8 years' incarceration.
Several new criminal cases against corrupt officials have been instituted in Dagestan. The high-ranked suspects include Abdulmedzhid Suleimanov, ex-Mayor of Izberbash; Amir Magomedov, ex-Head of the Izberbash Administration; Magomed Dzhelilov, Head of the Derbent District; and El’dar Karagishiev, Head of the Babayurt District. In the past, all of them were suspected of similar crimes – but somehow managed to get off the hook.
