Traffic police head: "Corruption is flourishing in the inspectorate"
Mikhail Chernikov

The majority of criminal cases on corruption in the internal affairs bodies are initiated against employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. New Head of the traffic department Mikhail Chernikov, who was assigned on this post in mid-July, told this during Rossiya-24 channel broadcast.

"The majority of criminal cases on corruption in the internal affairs bodies are initiated against employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. It must be one of the top-ranking departments by this indicator," Chernikov's statement as cited by Interfax.

According to General Chernikov, the corruption component in the work of police officers should be considered "under the moral aspect."

"To combat this phenomenon, we will consider a set of measures aimed at preventing the corruption-dependent behavior," Chernikov said.

Previously Head of the MIA Directorate in the Khabarovsk region, Mikhail Chernikov was assigned to the post of the new head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate on June 17, 2017. Chernikov, who had worked in the traffic police for 15 years, was named one of the main candidates for this post following the resignation of Viktor Nilov in March 2017.
