Employees of the MIA Internal Security in the Tambov region have detained two officers of the Drug Enforcement Administration on suspicion of bribe-taking.

According to Komsomolskaya Pravda, a criminal case has been initiated against them.

It all started when an operative detained a 23-year-old local resident for illegal storage of narcotic drugs. During the conversation, the police officer and his colleague advised the young man to turn to a lawyer they knew.

The lawyer offered the man to settle the problem with law enforcement officers in exchange for a certain monetary reward, which would allow him avoid criminal liability.

Throughout July, the victim of extortion transferred a total of 120 thousand rubles ($2 thousand) in parts to the mediator lawyer as payment for the provision of legal services, and September 28, the lawyer received 380 thousand rubles more ($6.6 thousand), some of which he gave the policemen on the same day.

The MIA office in the Tambov region has scheduled an official check against the suspects. If the illegal actions of the police officers are confirmed, they will be dismissed from service and punished in accordance with the law.
