Suspected of bribery Chelyabinsk region ex-Governor Mikhail Yurevich arrested in absentia
The regional Prosecutor's Office won this decision by the regional court that overturned the refusal of the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg.
The Sverdlovsk Regional Court decided to arrest former Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Mikhail Yurevich, accused of multimillion bribes, in absentia.
The regional court granted the prosecutor's request and quashed the decision of the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg, which earlier, on May 12, refused to arrest Yurevich in absentia. The former official is arrested for 2 months.
Earlier, the ICR claimed that the ex-Governor had been put on the international wanted list.
Mikhail Yurevich's lawyer Igor Trunov called the decision of the Sverdlovsk Regional Court "unexpected and taken with gross violations of the law." It is known that Yurevich is on treatment in London. Earlier, he underwent a medical examination in Israel. That is why the Leninsky District Court refused to satisfy the petition of the investigation about the arrest of Yurevich, the judge was provided with relevant medical documents.
"Nothing has changed since the decision was made by the Leninsky District Court, no new materials have been submitted, and suddenly the regional court changed the decision so radically," Igor Trunov commented to the 74.ru information portal. "We are still thinking about the next steps to be taken in this regard, we will discuss this with Mikhail Valerievich."
According to Trunov, the investigator was provided with certified medical documents from London's group medical practice that Yurevich was undergoing treatment and an additional examination from the oncohematologist in London, which would take at least a month. The lawyer called the petition for the arrest of his client "a pure disgrace", stressing that the protection of the former Governor filed a complaint against the investigator's actions when instituting criminal proceedings.
Note that the ex-Governor of the Chelyabinsk region announced his intention to come to Yekaterinburg for testimony, but he did not specify the exact dates of his visit.
Yurevich is charged with Bribe-Taking (part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code) and Incitement to Slander (part 4 of Article 33 and part 2 of Article 128.1 of the Criminal Code). According to the case materials, being the Head of the Chelyabinsk region (from 2010 to 2014), Yurevich regularly received bribes from his subordinate, Minister of Health of the region Vitaly Teslenko (in 2014 he was sentenced for seven years also for bribes of 70 million rubles - $1.2m) for general protection. The total amount of the bribe amounted to 26 million rubles ($459.800). In addition, according to the ICR of the Russian Federation, a program with defamation addressed to ex-chairman of the Chelyabinsk Regional Court Fyodor Vyatkin was published. Yurevich rejects all the charges.
Ismail Efendiev is suspected of exceeding authority in connection with the investigation of cases of detained earlier former First Deputy Prime Minister Ramazan Aliyev and nephew of the former head of Dagestan Askhabali Abdulatipov. Searches are being conducted at Efendiev's office and house.
The disappearance of an elderly Muscovite, who owns three rooms on Ostozhenka Street, and her disabled son, worried the neighbors, but the police refused to initiate criminal proceedings on their application. Housing in the elite area of the capital in the meantime was re-registered to a resident of St. Petersburg, who introduced herself as their relative.
