Сourt accepted Mari El ex-Governor's defence appeal against arrest
Former Head of the region Leonid Markelov is accused of receiving bribes of 235 million rubles ($4.18m).
The Moscow Basmanny Court accepted an appeal from lawyers of ex-Governor of the Mari El Republic Leonid Markelov for his arrest. This was reported to journalists on Wednesday, April 19, by press secretary of the Basmanny Court Yunona Tsareva.
"The court registered an appeal of the lawyer against the court's decision on selected preventive measure," she said.
Earlier the CrimeRussia wrote that the defense of the official appealed against the initiation of a criminal case. The former Governor himself does not recognize his guilt during the trial, stressing that "authoritative people" are ready to stand bail for him.
To recall, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Markelov for two months, which he will serve in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. According to the investigation, the former Governor of Mari El received a bribe totaling more than 235 million rubles through confidant Natalia Kozhanov from the founder of the Akashevskaya factory, Nikolay Krivash, for patronage and assistance with state support for the development of the agricultural complex.
Lawyers of Oleg Korshunov, who is charged with a large fraud in organizing the production of footwear for prisoners, do not see corpus delicti in his case. The prisoners did get their shoes, and the difference in the cost of footwear made from leather and split leather is about 10%.
